Our goal here at Feastly is to empower talented chefs and provide them the tools they need to accomplish their culinary dreams. One of the ways we do that is by illuminating on issues about which they are passionate and knowledgeable. With that in mind, we are excited to announce that we will be focusing on sustainability and more specifically, food waste, for the month of August!
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, one third of all food produced for human consumption is wasted every year. In developed countries like the USA, about 60% of this waste happens between production and retail, while 40% happens at the consumer level. Importantly, “if just one-fourth of the food currently lost or wasted globally could be saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people in the world.”
Via advance ticketing and set menus, the Feastly model addresses one of the major sources of food waste: uncertainty. This has major benefits for the profitability of our chefs, in addition to its impact on public health and environmental consequences of wasted ingredients. In addition to the format, we are consistently amazed by the efforts of our chefs and partner brands in finding creative solutions to these issues. Our goal with this campaign is to highlight those solutions with engaging content and special events from a lineup of some of the chefs, brands, and industry experts who are pushing the boundaries for a better future.
What to expect and how you can get involved:

- If you’re a chef, industry expert, brand, or just someone who is deeply passionate about this issue, we want to work with you! Fill out our quick survey and we’ll contact you about participation.
- If you’re an existing Feastly chef, send your city director a note mentioning you’d like to participate. We’ll follow up about creating an event or featuring your voice in our content.
- The end of the campaign will include a few major offline events featuring panels of experts, brands in the space, and chefs who embody this effort. If you know someone who might be a good fit, send firstname.lastname@example.org a short note or have them fill out this short survey.
