Mary Lemmer is the current owner/founder of Iorio’s Gelateria, but she’s been in the gelato business since she was 13 years old! Iorio’s began in 2004 when Mary and her brother Nick decided to bring Philly’s iconic summer treat, Italian ice, to their home in Michigan. When the business took off, Mary decided to pay homage to her family’s Italian heritage by adding gelato and other treats to the Iorio’s menu.
Working at Zingerman’s [gourmet food store in Ann Arbor], for its founder Ari, where I learned more about ingredients, flavor, food, and business than anywhere else.
